Will the bridges close during a hurricane or storm?

When and if there are sustained winds of 40+ miles per hour, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office will make the determination to close the bridges. The closures happen suddenly and usually do not have early notice as they are often closed right when the 40 mph sustained wind threshold is met.

JSO sends an alert to the media when the decision is made and News4JAX will send a push alert and post on all social media platforms to spread the word as quickly as possible.

We will also send an update when JSO alerts us that the bridges are open again.
